Foreword

This world is plagued by beings who, through bloodline, pact, or divine gift, wield powers no unvetted mortal should possess. These individuals squander their birth right in petty displays meant to feed primal desires, acting without accountability for the immense forces they command.

Even the pursuit of knowledge can become another form of hunger. True progress in this field demands accountability, a standard that can only be met through experimentation on the self.

Thus, this treatise serves as both a theoretical framework and an experimental log for the final phase of the Magus Ex Nihilo project: auto experimentation.

Previous trials on “null” subjects resulted in a 2.7% success rate for conduit induction. While statistically significant, this remains borderline useless for producing reliable instruments for the Empire. The primary point of failure has been identified as the subject’s own biological and psychological resistance, a “soul feedback”, that rejects the artificial graft.

To eliminate this variable, the logical next step is to employ a subject whose will is perfectly aligned with the objective of the experiment, one who perceives the process not as violation, but as ascension.

Myself, Strix Stonegut.

The risks are quantifiable and severe: systemic rejection, neural cascade failure, and Warp consumption represent the most probable negative outcomes. Yet the potential reward, the creation of the first stable, self aware, and utterly loyal Imperial Magus justifies the expenditure of a single life, even my own.

This document will record every stage of the methodology: the preparatory alchemical regimens and the surgical grafting of the primary arcane conduit in the subject.

If I expire, these notes will stand as the final record of my most significant contribution.
If I succeed, they will become the foundational text of a new order.

I. Preparatory Alchemical Regimens

To systematically prepare the biological substrate for the imposition of an artificial arcane conduit. This involves purging natural resistances, reinforcing cellular structure against chaotic energy decay, and inducing a state of heightened metaphysical receptivity.

Phase I: Purification

Formula A: Solventia Impuritas
Composition: Distilled gall of a phase beast, powdered null alloy filings, white willow extract. Administration: Three drops in 100ml of sterile water, taken upon waking. Purpose: To dismantle the subject’s latent magical signature, reducing the “soul feedback” to a null state. Side effects include tremors, temporary aphasia, and complete suppression of innate magical ability.

Phase II: Fortification

Formula B: Tela Ferrumvita Composition: Ironwood sap, dissolved keratin and bone marrow from a material asset donor, suspended in a colloidal silver base. Administration: Intravenous infusion, daily. Purpose: To restructure organic tissue into a durable, semi conductive matrix capable of resisting dissolution during conduit graft ignition. Subject will exhibit increased dermal density and a metallic sheen to the blood.

Phase III: Receptivity

Formula C: Apertura Anima
Composition: Psychotropic crystals from the Varnhold Wilds, essence of will-o’-wisp, neural stimulants.
Administration: Inhalation of vapours during sensory deprivation.
Purpose: To induce neuroplasticity and psychic lability, forcing consciousness into a malleable state receptive to imposition of a new metaphysical organ. This phase carries high risk of permanent psychosis or cerebral haemorrhage. Mental coherence must be monitored constantly.

II. Surgical Grafting of the Arcane Conduit

It is necessary to physically implant a manufactured focus that will serve as the primary organ for channelling, filtering, and controlling Warp energy through a surgical procedure, utilizing the thoracic cavity as the implantation site.

Required Materials:

  1. Primary Conduit Crystalline Matrix (PCCM), grown from a stabilized shard of null alloy
  2. Null alloy filigree wiring
  3. Living nerve thread culture, harvested from a Material Asset subject
  4. Retractor and clamp set
  5. Local anaesthetic and coagulant

Procedure:

  1. Incision and Access:
    • A 6 cm incision is made along the inferior border of the left fifth rib, following the intercostal space.
    • Muscle and tissue layers are carefully separated to avoid pleural puncture.
    • The retractor was positioned to maintain a direct visual field of the external thoracic wall.
  2. Conduit Placement and Fixation:
    • The PCCM is positioned against the external surface of the parietal pleura, superior to the diaphragm.
    • Null alloy filaments are fixed directly to the periosteum of the fifth and sixth ribs, creating a stable, grounded housing.
    • The living nerve thread is injected via hypodermic into the intercostal nerve bundle, where it will migrate and bond with the PCCM.
  3. Closure and Integration:
    • The incision is closed in layers, leaving the PCCM internally housed within the thoracic wall.
    • The null alloy filigree forms a subcutaneous web, connecting the conduit to the subject’s nervous system.
  4. Ignition:
    • A controlled burst of raw Warp energy is channelled directly into the PCCM via external emitter.
    • The rib mounted null alloy housing grounds the surge, while the intercostal nerve thread incorporates the energy signature, forcing symbiosis.

Critical Note: Success requires precise incision depth to avoid pneumothorax. The intercostal nerves provide direct neural access while allowing for self administration. Ignition must be performed within one hour of closure.

Notable Outcomes

  • Proof of Concept for Manufactured Magi: The subject has transitioned from a state of null magical affinity to a stable, consciously controlled arcane conduit. This demonstrates that magical ability can be artificially induced and mastered, fulfilling the project’s primary objective.

  • Discovery of the Limbic-Conduit Interface: Analysis confirms the PCCM’s primary interface is with the subject’s limbic system, not conscious thought. This critical finding explains initial volatile manifestations and led to the development of the “Emotional Bypass” technique, which allows for precise magical control by consciously filtering subconscious impulses.

  • Validation of the End-to-End Methodology: The entire protocol comprising the Preparatory Regimen and the thoracic surgical implantation procedure has been proven effective. This provides a replicable, albeit complex, blueprint for the Empire’s future arcane engineering programs.

Addendum: Replication Trials

Following the successful auto experimentation documented herein, a controlled replication series was initiated utilizing twelve (12) Material Asset subjects meeting all prerequisite criteria.

Results: Total failure. Mortality rate: 100%.

Analysis: All subjects failed to survive the Ignition phase. Catastrophic outcomes included:

  • Systemic cellular vaporization (7 subjects)
  • Spontaneous cerebral combustion (3 subjects)
  • Uncontrolled Warp manifestation leading to containment breach (2 subjects)

Conclusion: While the Magus Ex Nihilo protocol is theoretically sound and has been proven viable on Subject Zero, successful replication appears contingent upon a variable unique to the primary subject.

This variable may relate to the subject’s unique draconid chimeral physiology, willpower parameters, or the specific circumstances of their initial creation. The project remains a singular success until this anomaly can be identified and replicated.

The methodology is valid. The subjects were not. Further research is required to isolate the critical success factor.
