Field Log - Journey towards Ashbarrow

Date(s): Day of 08/02/1735

Author: Councillor Strix Stonegut

The goal of this journey is to recover Kaelvor’s Relic by any means necessary.

Contact with an ancient dragon

  • Noted a distinct, unnatural chill early in the day. Kobolds within the cave began exhibiting erratic behaviour, described by Cavix Brighthead as performing tasks they were late for.

  • Eldarion reported visual confirmation of an unidentified flying entity engaging in hostilities with local lizardfolk. Eldarion opted for a tactical concealment strategy amidst dense foliage.

  • Made contact with Rhagerhaletak, a draconic entity in a stable humanoid form, approximately 2 meters tall. His primary concern seemed to be the well being of the kobolds in the cave.

  • Rhagerhaletak requested assistance in neutralizing a bandit group responsible for the capture and desecration of kobolds. Request was accepted as the objectives aligned with our route and provided an opportunity to assess the entity’s capabilities.

  • Eldarion initiated a negotiation for compensation. Rhagerhaletak provided a non material enhancement, a beam of energy that seemed to bolster our stamina.

    • A side effect manifested in Eldarion, causing epidermal lignification.
    • A side effect noted but kept from the party, my Arcane Conduit seemed to flare from the beam. Must investigate later for any changes
  • Received 10 units of nutritional biomass, henceforth dubbed ‘good berries’, from Eldarion for unit sustenance.

  • Upon departure from the kobold cave, performed a standard salvage operation on the deceased lizardfolk.

    • Loot Acquired: 5 gp kept by now with Cael, 7 leather scraps, 8 sharp teeth.
  • Environmental Scavenging:

    • Cael located 1 curative and 1 poisonous reagent.
    • Biggert Smallington’s search yielded zero results, unsure if he even can recognize the plants necessary for potion craft.
    • Eldarion synthesized 4 curative reagents via applied natural magic.

Bandit Encampment

  • Engaged a hostile force of 11 bandits. Eldarion utilized a ‘Guidance’ spell on Cael Vargrim via physical contact. Observed bandits in the act of burning kobold remains.

  • Resource Allocation: Distributed 6 oil flasks between Biggert Smallington and Veyl Vale.

  • Tactical Deployment & Anomalies: Eldarion deployed a ‘Fog Cloud,’ significantly reducing visibility.

    • Biggert Smallington, in a state of rage, displayed impaired threat discrimination, nearly striking Veyl Vale on more than one occasion.
    • Veyl Vale, and Biggert Smallington collectively exhibited a notable, temporary reduction in cognitive function and coordination, even setting themselves ablaze on accident.
  • Eldarion seems to have some level of pyrophobia, undergoing a full morphological shift into an Ent like form in the presence of fire.

    • This form seems to have a certain degree of strength, enough to send me flying about 20 feet.
    • Utilized a ‘prone and smash’ tactic with high effectiveness, resulting in two confirmed kills.

Termination Tally:

  • Cael: 3
  • Biggert: 2
  • Veyl: 3
  • Strix Stonegut: 1
  • Eldarion: 2

Combat performance seems to have improved significantly from the previous occasion.

Post scuffle spoils and Analysis

  • 50 gp, 2 short swords, 11 scimitars, 3 healing potions, 1 crossbow with 30 bolts, 12 rations, assorted ragged clothing.

  • Discovered 5 kobold corpses in the process of immolation; the remainder of the pyre contents were ash, likely of kobold or human origin.

  • Eldarion attempted a floral generation ritual from his cranial region. Resulted in 378 non magical flowers produced with a reagent yield of 0. Efficiency: null.

Post engagement meeting with Rhagerhaletak

  • Rhagerhaletak gave us one leather bag containing: 5 leather scraps, 2 shortswords, 1 hatchet, 1 spear. The spear was offered to and refused by Eldarion, subsequently claimed by Biggert Smallington.

    • Upon close inspection, none of the simple or martial weapons contained any spark of magic.
  • Cavix Brighthead presented me with one wooden wand with inlaid metal suggesting high quality craftsmanship.

  • Of note that Eldarion transformed in to a bear, proving once more a deep connection to primal energies.

Upon inquiry Rhagerhaletak told us he had no spare scales from a previous molt. He did entrust some of his scales to an associate located en route to Ashbarrow. We are to make contact and hopefully acquire these.

Cavix Brighthead has requested to be officially integrated into the operational unit.
