Field Log - Journey towards Ashbarrow
Date(s): Eve of 07/02/1735
Author: Councillor Strix Stonegut
The goal of this journey is to recover Kaelvor’s Relic by any means necessary.
Preparatory Engagements
- Proprietor: Retired Grand Inquisitor Simeon Hale
- Initial friction with Eldarion using magic in Simeon’s presence.
- Cael Vargrim and Veyl Vale were requested to remain outside due to their dishevelled appearance.
- Notable Observation: An Arlendar relic displayed on the wall. Its presence conflicts with Simeon’s rank and history. A logical rationale for this contradiction must be established.
- Personnel Note: Cael Vargrim demonstrates sufficient charisma for tense negotiations, though requires refinement in diplomatic expression.
Wagon Seller
- Non negotiable prices.
- Personnel Notes: Eldarion claimed, again, to be able to communicate with animals. We’ll soon realise whether he’s able to.
- Successfully negotiated acquisition of essential operational resources.
- Arranged for Church of the Silver Flame officials to provide structural repairs (roof, windows, door) in exchange for provisions.
- Personnel Note: Veyl Vale revealed an anomalous physiology, claiming no requirement for sustenance or rest. Requires further investigation.
- Personnel Note: Eldarion provided a cartographic document of significant geographical inaccuracy.
Initial Journey & Combat Encounter
Route: Departure from Linsburg toward Ashbarrow.
Note: First experience traveling outside official church transport.
Combat Incident: Ambushed by six (VI) worgs.
- Biggert Smallington: Performance validated recruitment decision. Demonstrates exceptional durability, withstanding injuries that would incapacitate others. Cognitive capacity remains suboptimal.
- Eldarion: Fought effectively but was overwhelmed when surrounded. Requires tactical positioning support.
- Cael Vargrim: Close-quarters combat performance unsatisfactory.
- Veyl Vale: Exhibits pre-combat verbalization behaviour. Succumbed rapidly to a single worg, necessitating expenditure of one healing potion.
Post-Combat Analysis:
- Spoils:
- Sufficient worg meat for multiple meals for five individuals.
- Enough fat to be converted to 9 flasks of oil.
- Two flasks worth of acid.
- 5 gp recovered from digestive tract.
- Requirements: Immediate armour upgrades for Eldarion and Veyl Vale, who demonstrate high threat attraction.
Post-Engagement Developments
Shelter Acquisition: Eldarion communicated with local fauna (squirrel) that directed the party to secure location. Although it may seem unbelievable, it happened.
Encounter: Observed four lizardfolk surrounding one human. Current party condition prevented intervention.
Kobold Community Integration:
- Discovered five kobolds in indicated shelter.
- Their scales possessed a distinct dark red hue, a clear phenotypic indicator of red dragon ancestry. This suggests potential territorial overlap with a more significant threat. Noted for tactical assessment.
- Established rapport through provision of worg carcasses as sustenance.
- Their previous leader departed and failed to return, presumed deceased.
- One subject, Cavix Brighthead, demonstrates notably superior intellect for his species.
Personnel Notes
- Eldarion demonstrates carrying capacity beyond his physiological profile.
- Eldarion requested and received the Branding symbol of the Faith on his neck, specifically to overwrite a prior marking.
- Eldarion maintains a persistent focus on acquiring and examining blood samples.
Cultural Advancement:
- Provided nomenclature for previously unnamed, average, kobolds: Crusz Foolhead, Urgar Foolhead, Zolkia Foolhead, Belgren Foolhead.
- Their former leader was granted the nomenclature Gonius Foolhead.
- Successfully correlated their fire worship with doctrine of the Mother of Light, resulting in five conversions.
- Branded their garments for protection, with explicit instructions regarding non-aggression protocols to maintain its validity.
Mission Status: Proceeding with additional personnel and local intelligence acquired.
